You've Got The Wrong Number!

All day long I get calls from these people. Every day I can expect several automated calls. I wouldn't be as pissed if they were actually looking for me. They are calling about a room-mate that hasn't lived here in over a decade!!! My former room-mate must have used my number when they lived here to get a loan over a decade ago. I've called their offices and have given them all the info I have, including a number to contact the correct person, yet the calls continue! Enough already! Do I have to resort to legal action? What can I legally do about it?

At least they're calling for someone who you knew. They've been calling me for years (I just called and they said they hadn't) and now they're calling my child's phone!!

The person I just called was extremely rude and did not understand my situation at all!

She kept saying "we've obviously got the wrong number" where as I believe this person is giving out our number to save himself from debt collector calls.

This is a fraud case and they don't care!

I would also like to know what I can do about it!!

SRA Associates harassment calls

SRA Associates started with phone calls to my elderly uncle last year. He doesn't owe anybody, any money. Last year, he was smart enough to keep a record of each phone call, the phone number and time of the phone calls which went on for a number of months. He finally notified the Attorney General's office in PA. After that, the phone calls stopped. Yesterday, he started receiving these phone calls again. What is with these people. We will be notifying the authorities again. The authorities should be doing something about this company. They are contacting elderly people and some might now know what to do about this situation.

SIMPLE.....JUST TURN OFF THE RINGER ON YOUR PHONE. IF IT IS IMPORTANT, THEY WILL LEAVE A MESSAGE TO WHICH YOU CAN LISTEN TO LATER.

WE GET CALLS ALL DAY LONG FROM TELEMARKERS AND IT DRIVES US CRAZY SO WE DECIDED TO TURN OFF THE RINGER.....NO PROBLEM.

WORKS FOR US! :)

If a debt collector calls, and you tell him/her your not the person they are looking for, but actually are. Are you doing something illegal? If you do owe the debt and cannot pay...

Guest

SRA called my home regarding a relative. The individual finally identified herself after repeated questioning.

What is interesting is that she even gave me my relatives file # and asked me to contact her. I also asked her how she got my # and she said that my relative identified me as a contact. SRA rep was doing fine till she lied about me being a contact and giving me the file #. Making false statements is illegal.

Nice try Melanie. She is full of fail.

Collection agencies are a business just like any other business. If you are receiving calls and are not the party being sought, just tell them to take the number off their list.

If they contact again, they are in violation. Simple as that.

Some rude guy from SRA Associates has been calliing our house the three days trying to get in contact with our daughter. My husband asked him to take our number off his list.

Yesterday I answered the phone and was going to give him our daughter's phone number but he was so rude to me, sucking his tongue when I asked me to take our number off. I hung up. This morning he called again still looking for her phone number and still being rude to me. So I hung up again.

I put in a complaint on the Do Not Call registry.

My husband and I do not have credit issues, so this is sooooo foreign for us. Mike, you said call AARP (of which we are members), but can they do in this situation?

Settlement Letters are not Law Abinding

I have been speaking to a collection representative on behalf of my husband's account. I've informed the collector that I am also a collector and have been for over 10 years as well am employed for a law office that is highly recommended in the Maryland area.

I was offered a great settlement for my husband's debt and paid a small portion last month. I called today to pay them remainder balance of my husband's account and I was told that we would have to pay an additional $100.00 towards the debt by another collector. By Federal & State law, their letter is against the law due to the fact that their collector is try to require me to pay them extra money toward the account which is not the agreement I had with the prior collector who is handling our account.

So now I will be filing a complaint with the Attorney General in Maryland as well Trade Commission. I think this company need to retrain their employees before they break federal & state laws.

What pains call on 712 area codes and 2 seconds later on another 712 # I blocked all 712 on my smart phone never leave message. Humm no record no way prove law breaking they send certified letters but refuse to pick up let them waste $.

They cant get blood from stone on SSI and a Fed pension and only the Feds can put lien for Student loans taxes or in some cases child support. So call and write away I have 2 open check accounts for years and nothing they can do to close.

I was charged off last 2 yrs and got 1099 C now I bought new car 12 months later a large bank called me and cut interest in half.So SRA call away mail away nothing you can do. But scare people who let them be scared.

Debt collector calls for someone I dont know

SRA Associates Inc. 401 Minnetonka Road Hi-Nella (Somerdale , New Jersey 08083 co-owners Jim Deiter & John Chiara Phone: (856)925-**** 856-925-**** (856) 566-**** 856-755-**** 856-925-**** Toll Free: (800)735-**** This company violates the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (Public Laws 95-109 and 99-361) by contacting me about a 3rd party whom I don't know but who's number I have inherited. The act states; “ a debt collector may not communicate, in connection with the collection of any debt, with any person other than a consumer, his attorney, a consumer reporting agency if otherwise permitted by law, the creditor, the attorney of the creditor, or the attorney of the debt collector.” They also violate the Do Not call Registry Act. The act states;”if a consumer asks a company not to call, the company may not call, even if there is an established business relationship” In this case there is no relationship and never was. The law goes on to say;” indeed, a company may not call a consumer - regardless of whether the consumer's number is on the registry - if the consumer has asked to be put on the company's own do not call list.” The FTC says although the law is aimed at Telemarketers, it holds true for any company who hasn’t had a relationship with you due to the fact the calls aren’t solicited, which makes the calls, de facto Telemarketing calls. This company has eleven law suits in Federal court for breaking these acts. you can find the lawsuits @***.com. The only way to end these calls is to send a Cease and Desist letter addressed to the owners. State the phone number they contact, the name of the person they are attempting to contact and case #. Inform them you will call the State Attorney General office, The FTC, the FCC and the Do Not Call Registry and your lawyer (please do so) and if the harassment continues, you will sue. Let them know you are aware of similar suits against them. Send the letter by registered mail (they will have to sign for it) and keep a copy for your record. This should stop the harassment.

Excellent information! SRA ***.'s need to get their *** together.

Through my Verizon account, I can download every call they have made to my residence and each one serves as a violation of the "Do not call" law.

That's a whole lot of penalty money! :grin

Thank you!!! That was indeed, helpful!

SRA is filled with a bunch of idiots. Amen? Can I get an Amen? Amen. Amen. A man .. not a woman SRA idiots.

is it true they need to send a letter I paid a debt off back in January and have called every moth just to get the letter and every month they say they are sending it and never receive one...I was just told by them, Collections of America, that it's up to them if they feel like sending the report...I heard there is an Act stating they must send a paper stating if it was settled, paid in full, or payments, but i didn't know if it was true

Guest

Hello there--by law the collection agency has to send you a letter stating that your account has been Paid In Full no later than 30 days after the payment has cleared with their office as well the credit grantor. Since you have not received the Paid In Full letter from this agency, you need to contact you Attorney General's office and file a complaint against the agency as well file a complaint with the Trade Commission.

Also if this item is still on your credit report, you need to file a dispute with Transunion, Equifax & Experian.

Your dispute will take up to 45 days after their investigation and you should be able to get this resolved. Hope this helps and wish you the best of luck.

SRA calls repeatedly despite being told no such person at number

SRA Associates continue to call my number. They have been repeatedly told to not call this number. The person they are trying to reach is not at this number. They call on any day of the week and at all hours. When a live person calls, as opposed to a computer, I ask them to delete the number from their data base and they continue to question me about this person.....like I am lying. I am at a loss as to what to do. They call from multiple numbers so that I cannot block the numbers. There must be a mechanism to resolve this, but I don't know what it is. I am an innocent party here and I am being treated like a criminal.

Sra associates robo calls

This company wakes me up every morning with robo calls for someone I've never heard of. My # is on the Federal "do not call" list. The message says if you are not the person they are looking for, to hang up after a three second pause. There is no 3 second pause. There is about one second, or maybe half a second. They give you a # to call. I have spoken to them twice and they have told me they would take my # off the list, but it hasn't happened yet. I think these calls are illegal-- if anyone knows for sure, please let me know. I would like to join in a class action suit, and see criminal charges filed vs. John Chiara and Jim Dieter, the owners of the company.

I'm in on the Class action suit

Guest

In my honest and humble opinion, visit an attorney who deals with *** like this and file suit. This can't go on. What a bunch of bottom feeders.

Guest

dont contact them don't speak to them if you don't make any contact they might not be able to collect the sol is usally 4 to 5 years and if you don't make any agreements and don't tell them anything don't talk to them is the best policy . if they don't take you to court then don't worry

Guest

Who the heck are these people? They call me as I am about to sit down to dinner.

I think I'll call them back and tell them that if they can't have a live person call during business hours I will consider whatever debt they are trying to collect on paid in full. This last call was at 8PM and I'm in Mountain Time! They have got to be kidding. In addition it costs the company that contacted them almost 200.00/mo.

to keep whatever account it is open until tehy get paid. It's harassment and I, too, will join any class action suit anyone brings up!
